Cracking the Chardonnay code: it started with a cellar door, a dog, and more Chardonnay than any sane person should drink in a lifetime

Just another bloody good day in the life…

New website launched today. Along with a serious ’24 Pinot and a classic ’24 Chardonnay.

🍷 2024 Mount Moriac Pinot Noir – rich with dark cherry, savoury earth, a hint of spice. Hand-picked, fermented block by block and 10 months in French oak. Loved!

🍋 2024 Mount Moriac Chardonnay – A beautiful nose featuring floral notes, pithy citrus and white stone fruit, which all carry through to the rich and concentrated palate.

To mark the launch, we’re giving friends of Mount Moriac 20% off all wines with the code FRIENDSLAUNCH20.

For our big Torquay crew, hands up who loves cheese and wine? Yep, thought so. Everyone! Get down to see Damon tomorrow arvo at the Torquay Taphouse. He is pouring our brand new single vineyard ‘24 Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, ‘23 Shiraz and our cheeky Blanc de Noir sparkling - all with matched cheeses. Seriously. Not. To. Be. Missed!!

Harvest 2025: It was exciting, it was super early, it was low yields and especially... it was all about INTENSE flavours!

Our endless summer and overall dry year is going to produce some fantastic and complex wines.

Just the small matter of a year or so in oak first…

Big thanks to Sandra and her team for an awesome afternoon tasting through the Mount Moriac range at @thelaststopwinebar in Essendon last weekend.

The wines showed fantastically well and the big crew was super engaged by Damon and his special talent for talking about wines in a way that really brings them to life.

What a great way to spend a Sunday arvo...🍷🥂

What a fantastic day on Saturday at @toast_to_the_coast. Thanks to @winegeelong for putting on a great event.

It was a really enjoyable day; we had an overwhelmingly positive response to our wines and were flat out all afternoon pouring to a huge crowd of wine lovers. Thanks to all who came and supported us - especially the earnest cab sav lover from #Torquay who told us that he was `converted` and only going to drink our Pinot Noir from now on!

Best on ground with a stand out performance was our `23 Pinot Noir with the recently released `23 Shiraz not far behind. A big shout out to a cheeky showing from our `24 Viognier which created a very cool buzz with loads of people recommending it to their friends as the perfect `summer` wine.... orange blossom and apricot notes and a balanced crisp, dry finish, it`s already a favourite.

That`s a wrap for our first large event as the new(ish) custodians of Mount Moriac Wines. We feel so much momentum and goodwill and we really do appreciate it.

⭐ NEW RELEASE ALERT: 2024 MOUNT MORIAC PINOT GRIS ⭐

It was really quite astonishing how fast we ran out of our 2023 Mount Moriac Pinot Gris this year... but it wasn’t hard to figure out the secret sauce of its popularity.

Firstly, our ‘23 Gris gained a well-deserved reputation amongst the wine trade as a favourite ‘go to’ wine that beautifully over-delivered on value for money. As a result, the good citizens behind the counters of fine wine stores were merrily recommending it to their customers all over the place.

In addition, we recently heard Pinot Gris was called ‘one of Australia’s most fashionable white wines’... there’s no doubt that this varietal is having more than a ‘moment’ -more like a movement!

Anyway, to cut to the chase, running out of a popular wine like this one is actually one of those ‘good’ problems to have. Basically, every time we had a compliment and a reorder for the ‘23 our response was always the same, ‘If you think the ‘23 is good, just wait for our ‘24!!’

...And they have and the ‘24 is truly the one we are excited about.

Crafted by winemaker Alex Byrne, and made from premium fruit from Block 1 of the Mount Moriac vineyard, the 2024 Mount Moriac Pinot Gris is a lighter style Gris with enticing notes of pear and nuts. A small amount of lees stirring has produced a lovely mid-weight texture and a beautifully rounded mouth-feel.

DM us if you are part of the Pinot Gris movement and get 10% off a 12-bottle case - that`s just $324. We’ll also throw in free delivery as a big thank you. Offer is only for the month of September.

Meet Nev - the Mount Moriac Vineyard Manager.

Nevs work boots first stepped onto the Mount Moriac Vineyard in January 2016.

During this time, Nev has seen many seasons, and in fact, says this is one of his favourite parts of working in the vineyard. "I personally love the seasonality, the change of seasons and landscape and how it affects the insects, the birds, the animals, and of course the vines".

While vineyard life is one that agrees with Nev as he enjoys the peace and quiet, he attributes staying at the Mount Moriac vineyard specifically to it`s potential - "I have always felt that the Mount Moriac Vineyard and winery has so much potential to evolve and grow, and it`s that which keeps me fresh!"

...you`re certainly fresh to us, mate! Thanks for all of your continued efforts in making our vineyard the special place it is.

Clovers… lucky for some, reaaally lucky for us! Our clovers are in full swing this Spring at Mount Moriac and just quietly, an ode to heritage for our current Irish-background stewards - the O’Brien family.

Why are we happy to see so many clovers?

For one, they are a nitrogen producing plant, which helps fertilise the soil and nourish surrounding plants (or vines in our case!).

Secondly, as it has a winter and spring dominant growth pattern, it doesn’t compete directly with the vines which grow later in spring and summer. Another win.
